“Our stores are lucky to have a really close knit bunch of people that have their own interests and yet are united by their love of cycling.” Dan – Store Manager
- There’s a lot of employers out there... What made you choose us?
Coming from Australia with a strong cycling scene I was really excited to turn something I enjoy into a career. I saw Cycle Republic as a company with a promising future, and wanted to be a part of the growth of the brand. Being part of a company that has had such a positive impact in its early days has been a really rewarding experience!
- Tell us a bit about your role…
I have been with the company for nearly two years now, and have been lucky enough to have been based in various amazing cities across England including Norwich, London, and Leeds to name a few. During this time, I have met some vastly different customers and colleagues, and seen some bikes that are out of this world!
- What do you get up to on a typical day?
The day usually starts with a strong cup of tea, followed by organising the store and getting the team ready for the day ahead. We dial in the plan for the workshop and if needed I like to don the apron and get involved in the servicing. When a delivery arrives, we take in our new stock and get to check out some insanely nice bikes and accessories.
- What’s the best thing about working here?
Hands down, the people I have met along the way! Our stores are lucky to have a really close knit bunch of people that have their own individual interests and yet are united by their love of cycling and providing a unique experience for our customers. Staying at the forefront of cycling tech and constantly seeing new brands and gear emerge onto the market is also definitely a plus.
- What challenges have you faced and how did you deal with them?
Understanding the accent in Leeds! But on a serious note, progressing to store manager has been an unforgettable experience with plenty to learn in the process. As we are constantly taking in new products and brands it has also been a challenge keeping up with new trends in the market. The upside of having so many passionate cyclists in the stores means there is always someone clued up that can fill you in.
- Tell us about the training and development...
We have a great team that really drives colleague development within the stores, and I have seen this personally with my progression through the business. The management really go out of their way to provide an environment where training is readily available and encouraged. We have a great course available for mechanics within the company as well as an online hub that covers a great variety of skills used in the business.
- What's been your biggest achievement?
Taking on my first store at Twickenham. It was definitely a make or break moment for me in the company and I am really proud of the store that Twickenham has become.
- What do you think makes someone successful at Cycle Republic?
We deal with a completely different customer base every day, but at the heart of all the stores and their colleagues there seems to be a genuine passion to live and breathe cycling and a real drive to provide customer service that goes that extra mile.
- And, to anyone thinking about applying, what would you tell them?
If you love all things cycling and want to meet some truly great people then Cycle Republic is the perfect company for you.
